Mexico IS a different place. It is not the Southwestern US. This is a blog about our lives here in The Lakeside area of Ajijic and Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico since we retired here in September of 2010. It will be about daily/weekly things we experience along with occasional trips.
This is a shot taken from the carretera (main roadway) about a quarter mile from our place. The pelicans are from Canada and the US and are wintering here on the lake. Who can blame them! Carole and I have never seen white pelicans before, we're California kids and used to seeing California Brown Pelicans skimming the breaker line at the beach. The sisters (Sharon and Sandy) are from Florida and they are used to seeing brown pelicans too at those beaches. These white pelicans have black feathers that line the trailing edge of their wings! You don't see that unless they have their wings outstretched, as in landing or taking off. They arrive about October and fly back in April. The bird on the post is a common egret, I believe, with a bright yellow beak. I'll check and update this post if I'm wrong.
